Elem/Jr. High Wrestlers and Cheerleaders

Published by kstenek under Uncategorized

The Wrestlers and Cheerleaders return home today with some hardware from Unalakleet where they participated in the 27th Annual BSSD Wrestling and Cheerleading Tournament.  Each of the participants are to be praised for performing well and representing Shishmaref School and the community well.

Corey Ningeulook came home with a gold medal in the ELEM 97 Pound weight-class going undefeated in three matches.  This is the first champion that Shishmaref has produced in a very long time.  Great job Corey!!!  Also placing was Sam Tocktoo who placed third in the ELEM 72 Pound weight-class.  This was Sam’s first time traveling so it was exciting seeing him compete.

The cheerleaders also had a strong showing.  Nellie Okpowruk was recognized as an All-Star Cheerleader and she and Mamie Iyatunguk placed 2nd and 3rd places repectively in the large school All American Cheerleader competition.  Mamie Iyatunguk and Renee Kuzuguk won first place in the large school Partner Stunt Competition.  As a team, the girls took 2nd place in the Outstanding Cheer-Dance Routine competition, just behind Unalakleet by .75 of a point.
