We are proud to share that Shishmaref School won the Alaska State Red Ribbon Campaign with this year’s theme:
“Life Is a Puzzle — Solve It Drug Free.”
Our students competed in October 2025, joining schools across Alaska in promoting healthy, drug-free choices. Classrooms participated by designing meaningful door decorations that reflected student voice, creativity, and a united commitment to making positive, healthy decisions.
Due to weather and travel availability, the state representatives were unable to travel to Shishmaref immediately following the competition. However, this month we were finally able to celebrate together as two military representatives traveled to our community to formally present the award in person. We were also honored with a congratulatory video message from the Alaska Department of Health Commissioner.
It was a powerful and proud moment for our students to be recognized for their leadership and creativity.
This recognition belongs to our entire community — our students, staff, families, and supporters who continue to uplift one another. Together, we are raising leaders who shine bright like the Northern Lights and choose a healthy future.
