We would like to invite families to attend our Halloween parade on Thursday October 31st at 2:00PM in the school gymnasium. After the parade students will return to their classes for Halloween themed activities. Please feel free to attend wearing school appropriate costumes if you would like. See you on Thursday!

Update for Community Members interested in the CPR training: The trainers have now arrived and will be in the MPR until 5:45-6:00PM tonight. Please join us at the school to receive the CRP training.

Dear Shishmaref Community: This is a friendly reminder about our Cell Phone policy at school due to a recent increase in student phone use on campus. Phones must be placed in student lockers or in our grade level buckets at the start of school or as soon as a student arrives at school. It is recommended that phones be left at home to avoid temptation. Phones are not allowed in the MPR, Cafeteria, Hallways, Bathrooms, or Classrooms unless otherwise specified by a teacher for an academic purpose. Students may NOT keep their phones in their pocket or on their person. If a student has had their phone confiscated, they will not be able to participate in Rec, and the parent or guardian will need to come to school to pick it up as per Board Policy. Thank you for your support in keeping our school phone free, we appreciate all of your efforts!

📣 BSSD Loyal fans get ready for our first NFHS live streamed event, the 42nd Annual Wrestling & Cheerleading Tournament! Bering Strait School District will be transitioning to live streaming school activities for all school sites through the NFHS Network. To watch BSSD hosted events for free, create a ✅FREE ✅ account by following this link (https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/users/sign_up). No need to sign up for a paid subscription to watch BSSD hosted events, the district is covering the subscription fee! Currently, the system is installed in Unalakleet, but stay tuned for updates as we get the NFHS equipment installed across the district.

Dear Shishmaref Community!! Today is the last day of the first quarter, and there will be NO school for students tomorrow! We are also happy to announce that we will host the Unalakleet Volleyball Team for two games!!! On Friday, the doors will open at 6:30PM and the game will start at 7:00PM. We will also be offering a bump competition for prizes and will have an open concession stand! On Saturday Morning we will open the doors at 10:00AM, and the games will begin at 10:30AM. The concession stand will be open if you would like to start the day with some refreshments. The gate fee will be the same as our last games. Adults 3$ and Students 2$. Elders and Under 3 are free. Please come and support our undefeated volleyball team!

Dear Shishmaref Community, This is a friendly reminder that we will be holding our Title 1 Meeting tomorrow at 5:30PM in the MPR. Everyone is welcome to come and learn about what title 1 funds are, and how they can be used to support our students. See you there!

The portrait photographer is here to take community portraits from 2-4PM and will leave on the afternoon flight. If you would like to have your photos taken please come check in at the front desk, and we will take you to the elementary school workroom to have your photos taken.

Tonight there is a photographer here at school to take community portraits, and tomorrow from 2-4 for any families unable to come tonight. Tomorrow will be the school portrait day, students will have their photos taken in the morning and you can order the photos from their website linked in the flier.

Shishmaref is hosting Gambell and Savoonga for volleyball games on Friday and Saturday. The first game will be at 6:00PM on Friday. As our season of hosting events is about to begin there are a few friendly reminders that we would like to make. The Gym list will be in place for our hosted events on both Friday and Saturday. A helpful reminder from our parents and community members to our students about arriving at school on time and to remain in school all day could go a long way! Our assembly will begin at 8:50AM on Friday to recognize our athletes and hope that all of our students will be there to show their support. Another reminder is that no children under 10 years old will be admitted to the events without a parent or guardian to supervise them. Any students running or rough-housing in common spaces during the event may be asked to leave. We hope to see you at the games! The times of additional games will be posted on our website as they become available.

We will be holding a meeting here at school in the MPR about Title 1. Title 1 is a fund source to help students enrich their education. Any interested community members are invited to join us, learn about the Title 1 fund, and to also provide feedback on ways that it can be used to support our young learners. AEC Elections

We distributed newsletters at our open house this week. We have paper copies at that school, hopefully we can distribute them in public places around town. Here is a digital copy in case you were unable to attend our open house.

Dear Shishmaref Community: Elementary and Middle School Wrestling and Cheerleading practice will begin on Monday at 4 p.m. for students in grades 4-8. Cheerleading practice will be held in the MPR, and Wrestling practice will take place in the gym.

SHH Cross Country team is hosting Sunday Rec on September 22 to raise money for their team.

Dear Shishmaref Community! Today we will be starting up evening Rec. We will be using the same schedule as last year, found below: Time Age Group 7:00PM -7:40PM EVE-2nd Grade 7:40PM-8:20PM 3rd Grade - 5th Grade 8:20PM-9:00PM 6th Grade- 8th Grade 9:00PM-9:45PM 9th Grade- 12th Grade 9:45PM-11:30PM Adults In order to preserve our gymnasium floor, no outdoor shoes are permitted. Please remember to bring shoes to wear inside the gym. Also, the side door by the high school will be used, not the main entrance. Any students placed on the No-Rec list will be denied entry. The No-Rec list will use our conduct guidelines listed in the school handbook. The most common reasons include being late or absent from school or violating our no phone policy.
