Good Afternoon, Shishmaref!

We’re excited to get Rec going! We also want to be as transparent as possible about what our Rec schedule will look like right now and why.

Open Gym/Rec will run Monday–Friday:

🕖 ECE–3rd Grade: 7:00–8:00 PM
🕗 4th–8th Grades: 8:00–9:00 PM
🕘 9th–12th Grades: 9:00–10:00 PM
🕙 Adults: 10:00–11:00 PM

Why only five days?

Currently, the district allocation and our available budget allow us to support Rec for 4 hours per day, 5 days per week.

We know how important Rec is to our kiddos and our community, and we would love to be able to offer additional opportunities. We have applied for grant funding that would help cover additional Rec hours and our Rec Supervisor’s time. We are currently waiting to hear whether we were awarded those funds. 🤞

Until we receive word about the grant, we have to operate within the funding currently available to us. That means Rec will be Monday–Friday, 4 hours each evening.

If we receive additional funding and are able to expand Rec, we will absolutely communicate those changes with everyone.

📚 MAP Testing Begins Tomorrow! 🌟 Shishmaref School students will begin MAP Growth benchmark testing tomorrow. These assessments give us an important snapshot of what our students already know, how they are growing, and where we can better support them with instruction throughout the year. Families, you can help set your student up for success! 💚 😴 Get plenty of sleep tonight. 🍳 Start the day with a good breakfast. ⏰ Be on time and ready for school. 💻 Remind them to slow down, read carefully, and use their testing tools. 💪 Encourage them to take their time and simply do their best. MAP testing isn’t about getting every question right—it helps us see where each student is right now so we can help them continue to learn and grow. A good night’s sleep, a little encouragement, and a positive start can make a BIG difference! 🌙✨ Get some rest tonight, Northern Lights! Tomorrow, show us what you know! 💚🤍

It takes a whole team to keep our school running—and when one of our regular staff members has to be out, the show must go on! 💚🤍

We are looking for community members who are interested in joining our substitute list for the 2026–2027 school year.
Substitutes are an important part of our school team and help us continue providing a safe, supportive, and consistent school day for our students when regular staff are away.

We may need substitutes in a variety of areas, including:
🍎 Teachers/Classrooms
📚 Classroom Aides/Paraprofessionals
🍽️ Kitchen Staff
🧹 Custodial Staff
…and other areas as needs arise!

💚 Good Afternoon, Shishmaref Community & Families!

We are so happy to welcome our students back into the building today! It has been wonderful seeing their faces, hearing their voices in the hallways, and having our school full of students again. 💚✨

We know there have been a lot of questions regarding student enrollment and registration, especially with the enrollment process moving to a digital format this year.

We also know that we have students attending school whose online enrollment may not yet be fully completed. Please don’t worry—your student can still attend school while you work to complete the enrollment process.

Families have a 30-day grace period from the first day of school to obtain any missing records or documents and upload them into the online enrollment system.

During this grace period, we ask families to please continue working on their student’s enrollment and make sure all required information, records, and documents are submitted before the end of the 30 days.

If you are unsure whether your student’s enrollment is complete, are missing documents, or need help navigating the online system, please reach out to the school.

We are happy to help families through this new process and answer questions along the way.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all adjust to the new digital enrollment process. Most importantly, thank you for sending your kiddos back to us. We are excited to have them here and are looking forward to a great school year! 💚
